rainstorm across kalk bay harbour

the little harbour down at kalk bay is one of my favorite places

to go for fun, for amazing pictures, just to relax and to get away from the buzz of a busy day.

the weather was strange, quiet with no wind, and the light indeterminable,

a bit ominous but with something unpredictable in the air.

With a sudden strong gust of wind the rain swept in across the bay

suprising us all. the fishermen took shelter under the sheds on the jetty,

and i started shooting through the car’s windscreen,

leaving the wipers off and seeing the paintings that evolved in front of me

    Hi Frenske

There are only two words for these – “OH, WOW!” I live in Fish Hoek and so know the harbour well and love it, and these pics are more than special. Thanks for sharing them.

    Warm wishes

This is quite exquisie. You have captured soul food. I have an apartment in Muizenberg where I spend the “good weather” months in Cape Town. I love Kalk Bay and the whole area with its interesting and eclectic mix of people, from surfers to authors.

    Frenske!

I love the narrative arrangement of these pictures. I am particularly struck at how the final images derive a meaning that goes deeper than their impressionistic splashes of colour would suggest if viewed in isolation. You are an inspirational artist.

Hi Frenske, these are truly inspirational pics. I went to my first lesson of a new photography class last night so looking at these pics makes me want to go out there and shoot some myself! Thank you.
